The Abduction from the Seraglio
Update: The Livestream of The Abduction from The Seraglio by Mozart presented in association with the National Concert Hall, will now be streamed on Saturday 5th December from the National Opera House, Wexford. Due to continuing Covid-19 restrictions, the performance on 6 December has been cancelled.
The Abduction from the Seraglio was one of Mozart’s most successful operas during the composer’s lifetime. The work explores conflicts between nationalities and cultures with the lightest and most sophisticated of touches. The exotically colourful score includes some of Mozart’s most brilliant, extreme and virtuosic arias.
Soprano Claudia Boyle, who has been praised for her “stupendous coloratura sophistication and radiance” (Neue Musikzeitung), will sing Konstanze. The “stylish” (The Irish Times) tenor Dean Power sings Belmonte, with soprano Sarah Power as Blonde, tenor Andrew Gavin as Pedrillo and James Platt bass as Osmin.
INO Artistic Partner Peter Whelan conducts the Irish National Opera Chorus and the Irish Chamber Orchestra in a series of digital and in person concert performances.
The performance on 5 December is presented as part of the National Concert Hall's Classical Music Livestream Series.
