Play Rusalka
Irish National Opera, in partnership with the RDS (Royal Dublin Society), is inviting amateur musicians to participate in an orchestral workshop with INO’s Artistic Director, Fergus Sheil, taking place in the RDS Concert Hall in Dublin on Saturday 7 March 2026.
We welcome musicians who are experienced playing in non-professional orchestras and ensembles. Participants will explore the Overture and first scene of Rusalka, Dvořák's darkly poetic opera inspired by the story of the Little Mermaid. The orchestra will be joined by singers from Irish National Opera, who will sing the parts of three beguiling Wood Nymphs.
Play Rusalka offers a great opportunity to meet and play alongside musicians from other ensembles and to delve under the hood of Dvořák's richly lyrical score. There’ll also be opportunities to learn about what it takes for a company like INO to produce a large-scale opera. The workshop is taking place ahead of INO's performances of Rusalka at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre in late March.
Participation in the workshop is free of charge. Spaces are limited and therefore subject to a successful application. To apply to take part, please fill in this form by Friday 20 February. You must be 18 years of age or older to take part.
- When: Saturday 7 March, 3pm-6pm
- Where: RDS Concert Hall
If you have any questions, feel free to contact info@irishnationalopera.ie.
The workshop is presented in partnership with the RDS.

“It was terrific to play in such a big orchestra at such an impressive venue and to perform such challenging music after such a short rehearsal time” - Participant of ‘Play The Flying Dutchman’ workshop (2025)
