WhistleBlast Quartet and That’s Life new opera MR PRESIDENT
WhistleBlast Quartet, in collaboration with That’s Life, proudly presents the World Premiere performance of a new groundbreaking opera MR PRESIDENT, featuring participants in leading roles from Galway’s special arts organization ‘That’s Life and Electric Dreams’, accompanied by the young musicians of Limerick’s ‘Ceol na Mara Youth Orchestra’.
This unique and wonderful new opera, full of power and protest, will include new music composed and performed by all participants in That's Life, and original gamelan music led by That’s Life Programme Leader Andrew Madec plus a wonderful shadow puppet visual created by the That’s Life team.
WhistleBlast Quartet, delighted to bring this programme to Galway, will be accompanied by Ceol na Mara Youth orchestra, renowned mezzo-soprano Catherine Donnelly and jazz guitarist Aengus Hackett.
That’s Life, an award-winning arts organisation, offers people with intellectual disabilities opportunities to discover and realise their artistic potential, through working with established artists and participating in high-quality arts programmes.
WhistleBlast Quartet (Mary Curran, horn. Kenneth Edge, saxes and clarinets. Oonagh Keogh, violin and Conor Linehan, piano) is celebrating its twentieth year facilitating multiple annual performance and composition programmes giving access to classical and live music in diverse settings.
WhistleBlast Quartet is funded by the Arts Council of Ireland.
With a focus on inclusion this production will include Lámh signing, making MR PRESIDENT more accessible for people with communication difficulties.
Performances of this unique opera featuring multigenerational participants with additional needs, will take place on Friday 21st June at 7pm in Town Hall Theatre, Galway.
