Open Call - Assistant Designer at Irish National Opera
This Open Call is for one Video Designer in the early stages of their career to assist Neil O’Driscoll in the creation of the Projection Design for Irish National Opera’s production of The Cunning Little Vixen, an opera by Leoš Janáček. It will be directed by Sophie Motley with Set Design by Maree Kearns, Lighting Design by Sarah Jane Shiels and Costume Design by Saileóg O’Halloran.
This is a paid mentorship programme presented by ISPD (Irish Society of Performance Designers) in partnership with Irish National Opera and funded by The Arts Council Arts Grant Funding 2026.
Interviews with selected candidates will take place during w/c 24.11.2025. The chosen candidate will work under the mentorship of Neil O'Driscoll in addition to engaging with the wider creative team and crew to design the show and deliver it to the stage.
This will involve advance planning sessions with the designers, production and design meetings, rehearsals and attendance at opening night. The intern must be available to be on site with the Designer at least once per week and must be available for the get-in and the entire tech period.
Rehearsals commence in Dublin on 2 January 2026. Tech rehearsals and opening night will take place in Siamsa Tire, Tralee from Sun 25 January 2026 to the first performance on Sat 31 February 2026.
This is a paid role with a remuneration of €3,000. Any accommodation and/or travel expenses associated with tech rehearsals in Tralee, Co Kerry will be reimbursed. Expenses for Dublin-based rehearsals will not be covered.
