Irish National Opera announces auditions for singers for in a range of new roles - Company Chorus, Extra Chorus, and Solo Chorus Roles.

1. Company Chorus

To date, Irish National Opera’s chorus has been recruited on an opera-by-opera basis. INO now wishes to engage 16 singers (4 sopranos, 4 mezzos, 4 tenors, 4 baritones/basses) to form a Company Chorus on a season-by-season basis. It is envisaged that the Company Chorus will become part of INO’s artistic backbone.

The first contract of work will include Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda in May/June 2022 as well as four other main-scale productions across the 2022-2023 season (estimated 30.5 weeks work). Thereafter positions will be auditioned for annually and will normally involve 24-26 weeks work.

This new structure is intended to provide increased predictability and stability in employment for singers as well as build artistic and performance expertise within the company.

Please note success in these auditions will not preclude an application to Irish National Opera’s ABL Aviation Opera Studio. It will be possible to be a member of both the Company Chorus and Studio.

2. Extra Chorus

Singers that have not previously auditioned for or performed with the INO chorus are invited to audition for the company with a view to joining the Extra Chorus, which will be recruited on an opera-by-opera basis to augment the Company Chorus. If you have recently auditioned for or performed with the company there is no need to re-audition, you will be considered for the work as it arises.

3. Solo Chorus Roles

Two of the operas in the 2022-2023 season have a number of solo roles that will be taken by members of the chorus. Singers are invited to apply for any of these roles by preparing relevant extracts from the operas. Please email Muireann Ní Dhubhghaill muireann@irishnationalopera.ie for a list of available roles and audition extracts. A limited number of coaching slots will be available on a first-come-first-served basis for singers that wish to prepare a solo role audition extract.
