Chorus auditions 202627

Irish National Opera is delighted to announce details of auditions for the INO Studio and INO Chorus for the 2026/27 Season.

1. INO STUDIO (SINGERS)

The 2026/27 INO Studio will commence in September 2026 to provide training, mentoring and high-level professional engagements for Irish opera artists as they develop their careers.

Successful candidates for the 2026/27 INO Studio will likely be those who have completed Masters level training and are in the early stages of their careers.

The INO Studio is only open to applicants who are either Irish or based in Ireland at the point of application. This restriction does not apply for chorus applications.

INO Studio activities for singers may include:

  • Regular vocal coaching with top Irish and international vocal coaches
  • Covers of principal roles in INO productions where appropriate
  • Masterclasses and workshops
  • Language coaching
  • Performance opportunities
  • More information on the INO Studio can be found here

Applications for other studio positions will be advertised at a later stage if positions are open for 2026/27 season.

2. INO CHORUS

Singers of all voice types (eg soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor, baritone, bass) are invited to audition to join the pool of freelance singers from which Irish National Opera engages extra chorus members on an opera-by-opera basis.

Working with the INO Chorus offers suitably qualified singers exciting professional opportunities at the artistic heart of INO’s world class productions. INO’s 2026/27 Season will include three mainscale productions in the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre (Autumn 2026 & Spring 2027) and in the Gaiety Theatre (Dublin), National Opera House (Wexford) and Cork Opera House (Summer 2027).

Successful applicants are likely to be those who have completed Bachelors or Masters level training and/or who can demonstrate relevant experience. Applications are very welcome from singers at all stages of their careers.

Applicants from this round of auditions will also be considered for membership of the INO Company Chorus, should positions in their voice type become available in the future.

INO Chorus Audition FAQs:

Singers who auditioned with INO in 2024 or 2025 do not need to reaudition for extra chorus work. However, candidates who feel their voice has developed or changed since their last audition are also welcome to reapply, even if we last heard you in 2024 or 2025.

Singers who have performed with the INO Chorus (extra chorus) in the last two seasons, but who have not auditioned with the company for more than two years, are encouraged (but not required) to reaudition.

INO Company Chorus positions are advertised separately, whenever there is a vacancy to fill. However, candidates from this round of auditions will be considered for any company chorus positions that may become available in the future.

The 16 members of the INO Company Chorus are engaged on a season-by-season basis and commit to performing across all of INO’s main-scale productions in any one season. Members must reaudition every 2 years.

Members of the INO Chorus (Extra Chorus) are engaged on an opera-by-opera basis to augment the Company Chorus as required.

No. Since the number of singers on our list always exceeds the number of contracts offered in any one season, acceptance onto the extra chorus list is not a guarantee of work.
