Master Class - Smock Alley Theatre production in association with INO

“Don’t talk to me about rules, dear… I make the goddam rules” – Maria Callas
Smock Alley Theatre’s production of Master Class, An Audience with Maria Callas opens in two weeks.
Presented in co-production with Once Off Productions and in association with Irish National Opera, Master Class tells the story of a series of masterclasses done by the iconic Maria Callas at The Julliard School in New York. The award-winning play, written by Terrence McNally, using Callas' own words, invites audiences into her lessons on music and performance. A play filled with passion and stories from an iconic career.
An opera star, Maria Callas was well known for her supreme talent, earning her the moniker La Divina “the Divine one”. Her career spanned the first half of the 20th century where she became famous for her artistic and vocal range, and her mastery of bel canto technique.
The cast features Kelli-Ann Masterson, a former member of the INO Opera Studio, who performed as Norina in INO’s recent tour of Don Pasquale.

This Tony-award winning piece of theatre tells the story of an opera star near the end of her career, sharing her life and experience with young singers. INO’s own rising opera talent stars in this new production of Master Class showing once again the versatility of opera and the possibilities for crossover between artforms.
Master Class is an unmissable celebration of music, theatre and art. Catch it at the Smock Alley Theatre from 11 – 27 May.
