Irish National Opera is seeking a detail-oriented individual to join the company as Bookkeeper.

Reporting to the Business & Finance Manager, the Bookkeeper is a key member of the INO’s team responsible for ensuring smooth, timely and accurate financial operations and management.

This role will be of interest to professionals with a background in bookkeeping who wish to join a dynamic and enterprising arts organisation. This is a part-time position at 50%, equivalent to 2.5 days or 20 hours a week. The schedule of work can be flexible and remote working arrangements are possible where practicable.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • General accounts/data entry - weekly and monthly bookkeeping processing on Sage Accounts
  • Purchase/sales ledger maintenance including proper recording of supplier invoices, setting up payment runs, supplier statement reconciliations and investigation of anomalies for review
  • Preparation and issuing of sales invoices and updating credit control
  • Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation
  • Assist with revenue/VAT filings
  • Input journal transactions as necessary
  • Review and process staff expenses, credit card statements, petty cash and production cash
  • Assist with box office settlements including contra accounting
  • To support and work closely with the Business & Finance Manager and the Accountant to provide accurate and timely financial reports
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing of accounts
  • Assist with external audit requirements
  • General administration and filing 
  • Assist in process improvements 
  • To undertake other duties as reasonably required

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have some experience in bookkeeping and demonstrate a keen interest in accuracy and attention to detail. A prior knowledge of opera or experience of working in the arts sector is not required. An interest in the work of Irish National Opera is desirable.

Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in Sage Payroll/Sage Accounts or other accountancy software
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise
  • 2+ years’ experience in bookkeeping
  • Personal accountability, high level of integrity and ability to observe strictest confidentiality

The starting salary range for this role is €32,000 to €34,000 (pro rata at 50%: €16,000 to €17,000) depending on experience, plus up to 5% pension contribution upon completion of probation. The company conducts annual performance and salary reviews.

The role is offered as a three-year contract, subject to successful completion of 6 month probationary period. The annual leave entitlement is 20 days plus bank/public holidays (pro rata at 50%).
