Biography

Irish baritone Seán Boylan studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin with Virginia Kerr; the Franz-Schubert-Institut in Baden bei Wien in Austria; and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama [GSMD] in London, with Robert Dean, supported by the Amar-Franses and Foster-Jenkins Trust. He has performed at concerts and recitals in venues including the National Concert Hall, Dublin, Kilkenny Castle, Ulster Hall, Belfast, Wigmore Hall and Barbican Hall, London, and Lincoln Center, New York. His previous roles include Moralès in Bizet’s Carmen (Irish National Opera); Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (GSMD), Novice’s Friend in Britten’s Billy Budd (St Endellion Festival), Tarquinius in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia (Potsdamer Winteroper), Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte (Garsington Opera, GSMD); and the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Nevill Holt Opera and Garsington Opera). He has also covered Demetrius in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Scottish Opera) and Aristaeus/Pluto in Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (English National Opera).
