Biography

Equally at home in the world of opera, symphonic repertoire and contemporary music, American conductor Ryan McAdams has established a strong presence on both sides of the Atlantic. He is the Principal Conductor of the Crash Ensemble, Ireland's foremost contemporary music group. Together they perform at the New Music Dublin Festival and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. Ryan conducted Enda Walsh and Donnacha Dennehy’s The Second Violinist for Irish National Opera and Landmark Productions.

After his summer at Saratoga Opera leading Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Ryan will return to the National Symphony Orchestra. Highlights of last season include a return to the ONDIF, the Belgian National Orchestra and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana. After his German debut at the the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele in 2023, he opened this year’s edition.

In 2022/23 Ryan debuted at the Opernhaus Zürich in a revival of Gounod’s Faust and returned to Italy for symphonic programs. Further highlights include Ryan’s successful return to the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for Puccini’s Tosca and a new production of Berlioz’s Les pêcheurs de perles in Torino. He appeared with Kansas City Symphony, New York City Opera, National Symphony in Washington amongst further US-American orchestras. In Europe he conducted the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Opera Nationale de Lorraine and L'Orchestra de Chambre de Geneve.

He was the first-ever recipient of the Sir Georg Solti Emerging Conductor Award and a Conducting Fellow at Tanglewood. Ryan studied at the Juilliard School and Indiana University.
