Biography

Riccardo Novaro has established himself as one of the leading bel canto singers of his generation.

He has gained international recognition as a Mozart and Rossini interpreter, singing the title role in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Guglielmo in Così fan tutte at the Vlaamse Opera and Don Alfonso in the same opera at the Glyndebourne Festival. He appeared as Dandini in Rossini’s La Cenerentola at the Paris Opéra and Bavarian State Opera, Rimbaud in Le comte Ory at the Royal Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, and Taddeo in L’italiana in Algeri at the Opéra National de Bordeaux.

His extensive discography includes Charpentier’s Te Deum with Myung-Whun Chung (Deutsche Grammophon); Handel’s Floridante with Alan Curtis (Deutsche Grammophon Archiv Produktion) and L’Incoronazione di Dario with Ottavio Dantone for the Vivaldi Edition on Naïve.

Recent and forthcoming engagements include Bartolo in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia at the Grange Festival, Argante in Handel’s Rinaldo in Versailles, Moscow and Theater an der Wienm Elviro in Handel’s Serse in Beaune, and the Mozart/Da Ponte Trilogy at La Monnaie in Bruxelles. He makes his Irish National Opera debut in Rossini’s Cinderella/La Cenerentola.
