Biography

American tenor Peter Marsh has sung an astonishing number of very different roles in his career. Mime in Wagner’s Siegfried (available on CD & DVD on OehmsClassics), the Shabby Man in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Oedipus in Stravinsky's Oedipus Rex, Leukippos and Apollo in Strauss’s Daphne, the Captain in Berg’s Wozzeck, Caliban in Thomas Adès’s The Tempest, the Witch in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, Pedrillo in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail (available on DVD), and Matteo in Strauss’s Arabella. Other roles include the title role in Zemlinsky's Der Zwerg, Kimmo in Sallinen's Kullervo, and the title role in Britten’s Peter Grimes. He enjoyed great success singing Walter in a new production of Weinberg's Die Passagierin in Oper Frankfurt, which went on tour to the Festwochen in Vienna. He also performed the role at the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. Other engagements have taken him to the Seattle Opera, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, the Munich, Berlin, Dresden and Hamburg state operas, Düsseldorf, Brussels, Tiflis, Montepulciano, Tokyo and the Bregenz and Edinburgh festivals. Peter Marsh has been a member of the Oper Frankfurt ensemble since 1998. The role of Aegisth marks his debut with Irish National Opera.
