Biography

The tenor Merūnas Vitulskis was born in Kaunas, Lithuania. His current and future projects include Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly and Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata at Lithuanian National Opera as well as Lensky in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and his role debut as Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca. In recent seasons he performed Pinkerton at Staatstheater Kassel, Opera North, Opéra de Lille, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Stadttheater Klagenfurt and Ópera de Oviedo, and Alfredo at Teatro di San Carlo, Naples. Past performances include Alfredo at ABAO Bilbao Opera under the baton of Kery-Lynn Wilson, Rodolfo in Puccini’s La bohème at Opera in St Margarethen Quarry (new production by Robert Dornhelm), Macduff in Verdi’s Macbeth at Klagenfurt, Alfredo at Teatro Verdi Trieste, Rodolfo at Oper Graz and Aalto-Musiktheater, Essen. He developed his musical skills at Gruodis Conservatory (2004-6), continuing his studies and graduating at the Music Academy with the vocal teacher Ohn Antanavicius. In 2006 he studied further with Vytautas Juozapaitis, and in 2009 he joined the singing class of the famous tenor Virgilijus Noreika. Festivals he has performed at include the National Progress Prize ceremony with the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, Pažaislis Music Festivals XII and XIV, Druskininkai Theatre Festival, International Tytuvėnai Summer Festival (with St Christopher Chamber Orchestra), 75th anniversary of the Lithuanian National Opera, Operetta Festival in Kaunas Castle. He sang Rodolfo in INO’s lockdown recording of La bohème for Signum Records, and makes his company stage debut in this production.
