With an engaging presence and delightful charisma Dublin-born soprano Máire Flavin represented Ireland at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World where she was a finalist in the Song Prize. Recent operatic highlights include Chrysothemis in Strauss’s Elektra and Hannah in Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh’s The Second Violinist (Landmark Productions/Irish National Opera); Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Opera Theatre Company); Contessa d’Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro (Salzburger Landestheater, Opera North); Violetta in Verdi’s La traviata, Anna Sørensen in the British premiere of Kevin Puts’s Silent Night; the title role in Handel’s Alcina, Hanna Glawari in Lehár’s The Merry Widow, and Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte (Opera North); Dido in Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas (Théâtre des Champs Elysées); Bianca in Andrew Synnott’s La cucina (Wexford Festival Opera); Mimì in Puccini’s La bohème (Cork Opera House, Opera Theatre Company); and Elena in a new production of Rossini’s La donna del lago (Buxton International Festival). She has also performed lead roles with Scottish Opera, Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing, Northern Ireland Opera, Opera Collective Ireland and Welsh National Opera. On the concert platform she has appeared in concert with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North, the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, and the Deutsche Philharmonie Merck.
