Biography
South Korean baritone Leon Kim has won many international awards and prizes. In 2017 he received the third prize at Placido Domingo’s prestigious Operalia competition.
His past engagements include Francesco in Verdi's I masnadieri at the Festival Verdi in Busseto; Puccini's Manon Lescaut in Livorno, Pisa and Rovigo; Schaunard in Puccini's La bohème in Naples; Germot in Verdi's La traviata, Belcore in Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, Colline in La bohème and Verdi's Macbeth in Trieste. Paolo in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra in Bologna, Genoa and Montpellier; Giordano's Mala Vita/ Leoni's L'oracolo and Catalani's Edmea at Wexford Festival Opera. Renato in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera in Parma; Verdi's Aida and Verdi's Il trovatore for the AsLiCo circuit; Refice's Cecilia, L'elisir d'amore, Leoncavallo's Pagliacci, La traviata and Boiot's Nerone at the Lirico di Cagliari; Verdi's Luisa Miller at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Carmen in Kiel; Aida in Montpellier; Verdi's I due Foscari and La bohème in Genoa.
Also active in the concert field, he performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in Florence and Turin; he was the protagonist of a Gala concert organised by the Teatro Regio in Parma in the splendid setting of the Teatro Farnese, in the Christmas concert organised by the Teatro Verdi in Trieste and in Carmina Burana in Cagliari.
Upcoming engagements will see him as Conte di Luna in Il trovatore in Lubjiana with the Maggio Musicale di Firenze Orchestra; Frà Melitone in Verdi's La forza del destino in Montpellier; Germont in La traviata in Genoa; Rigoletto and Amonasro in Aida at the Maggio Musicale in Florence and Sonora in Puccini's La fanciulla del West at Teatro San Carlo in Naples.
