Biography

Leanne Fitzgerald is a mezzo- soprano from Co. Kerry. A 2024/25 Irish National Opera Studio artist, Leanne has been a frequent collaborator with the company since 2022. Her featured roles include Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Ida in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, the Notary in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and as a soloist in the national tour of Music, Magic and Mischief. Leanne has a particular interest in new music and theatre. Her contemporary opera credits include Patrick Zimmerli’s Lucia Joyce at New Music Dublin 2026, Errollyn Wallen’s Cautionary Tales with Opera Collective Ireland and Luke Byrne’s The Ballybruff Trilogy with Opera Workshop Limerick. Leanne presented her first original work, an ‘operatic play’ entitled Casting Call (co-written with Ben Escorcio) at the 2026 Scene + Heard Festival of New Work at Smock Alley Theatre. Previous stage credits include Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen (Limerick Opera Festival) and Pitti-Sing in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado (Cork Opera House), and Leanne also featured in the 2025 Rising Stars concert at UCH Limerick. As an oratorio soloist, she made her solo debut with the Ulster Orchestra in Tippett’s A Child of Our Time, conducted by David Brophy, and her first appearance with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah with Our Lady’s Choral Society under Proinnsías Ó Duinn. In May 2026 she premiered Paula Meehan and Seán Doherty’s new cantata The City of Our Dreaming, commissioned for the 75th anniversary of The Guinness Choir.
