The winner of Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition, tenor Konu Kim, made his debut with Glyndebourne Tour this season as Ferrando in Mozart’s Così fan tutte. He makes his US debut at San Diego Opera in the same role, at San Francisco Opera as Bao Yu in Bright Sheng’s Dream of the Red Chamber, and performs Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle at the National Concert Hall in Dublin for Wexford Opera Festival. Future engagements include returns to the Royal Opera House, Donizetti Festival in Bergamo and others. His 2021-22 season engagements include his debut with Donizetti Festival as Leone in L’Ange de Nisida, Almaviva in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia with Nouvel Opera Fribourg, Edoardo in Verdi’s Un giorno di regno with Garsington Opera and Elvino in Bellini’s La sonnambula with Müpa Budapest Palace of the Arts. Kim studied at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, the Korean National Opera Academy, and in Germany. His awards include first prizes at the Concours musical international de Montréal, the Seoul International Music Competition, the Marmande International Singing Competition, France, the GB Rubini, Marcello Giordani and Riccardo Zandonai international singing competitions in Italy, and the International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition in Poland. He makes his INO debut in William Tell.
