Biography

Joan O’Clery is an award-winning costume designer working across stage and screen.  For Irish National Opera, she designed Smetana's The Bartered Bride, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh’s The First Child and The Second Violinist (Landmark/INO). She is a three-time winner of Best Costume Design at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards and a three-time nominee at the Irish Film and Television Awards. Theatre credits: Fair Deal, Women, Faith Healer, She Stoops to Conquer, The Persians and Joyce’s Women (Abbey Theatre); Eureka Day, Love Song, The Pull of the Stars, The Steward of Christendom (Gate); Reunion, The Dead, Walking with Ghosts, The Saviour, The Approach (Landmark), Medicine and Woyzeck in Winter (Landmark/Galway International Arts Festival), and Ghosts (Landmark/Abbey Theatre); The Homecoming of Joseph Grace (Once Off Productions), Macbeth (Shakespeare’s Globe/Royal Shakespeare Company).  Screen credits: Four Mothers, The Wolf, The Fox & The Leopard, Tarrac, Dating Amber, Kin S1, The Inheritance and Finding Joy Series 1&2.
