Biography

Jessica Kennedy is an award-winning choreographer, movement director and dance artist based in Dublin. She designed choreography for Verdi’s La traviata and Massenet’s Werther for Irish National Opera, as well as John Adams’s Nixon in China for Wide Open Opera. She is Co-Artistic Director of Junk Ensemble, an acclaimed dance-theatre company known for creating innovative, brave and collaborative work that sheds light on important human issues relevant today. The company regularly tours internationally. Jessica trained in the USA, Dublin and London, studying Dance Performance and English Literature in London. Jessica has performed extensively with dance & theatre companies throughout Europe and the UK including Blast Theory (UK), Retina Dance Company (UK), Brokentalkers (IRL), Tanz Lange (DE), Firefly Productions (BE) and productions with The Abbey, The Pavilion & The Ark (IRL). Choreography for theatre includes: Tuesdays with Morrie (Gaiety Theatre); Gatman! (The Everyman Cork); The Last Return (Druid Theatre); The Selfish Giant (Beijing Children’s Theatre); Scotties (Theatre GuLeor/National Theatre of Scotland), and for film: Wildfire (dir. Cathy Brady); It Is In Us All (dir. Antonia Campbell-Hughes); The Tower (dir. Jesse Jones); M/S; PARISH; KING DAY (dir. Eóin Heaney); The Au Pair; Five Letters; Wonder House (dir. Oonagh Kearney); and 6SKIN (dir. Aideen Barry/Alice Maher). Jessica also works as an intimacy choreographer in film and has lectured on live performance at University College Dublin, University of Galway, and SETU Carlow.
