The Cunning Little VixenBiography
British bass James Platt was educated at Chetham’s School of Music and went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This is his first appearance with Irish National Opera. In the 2025/26 season, he also makes his house debut at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, singing Titurel in Wagner’s Parsifal. Recent engagements include Swallow in Britten’s Peter Grimes for Dutch National Opera, Haydn’s The Creation with La Nuova Musica, and Handel’s Messiah with Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra. James has appeared as Sarastro (Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte) and Il Re (Verdi’s Aida) at Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Bottom (Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at both Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Grange Festival; and Trulove (Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress) at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. Concert appearances include Elgar's The Dream of Gerontius with the London Philharmonic Orchestra/Edward Gardner at the BBC Proms, Zacharie (Meyerbeer’s Le prophète) with the LSO/Sir Mark Elder at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, and Hunding (Wagner’s Die Walküre) with Philharmonie Zuidnederland/Hartmut Haenchen. Further highlights include Verdi’s Requiem with Orchestre National de Lyon/Leonard Slatkin, Dvořák’s Requiem with the BBC Symphony Orchestra/Jiří Bělohlávek, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at the BBC Proms with the BBC Singers/David Hill.
