Biography

Ukrainian baritone Iurii Samoilov began his career in 2010 as Plutone in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo at Amsterdam Stadsschouwburg, directed by Pierre Audi. Since then he has appeared at some of the most renowned opera houses and festivals, including the Metropolitan Opera, Opéra national de Paris, Teatro Real in Madrid, La Monnaie/De Munt in Brussels, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salzburger Festspiele, Semperoper Dresden, Alte Oper Frankfurt and Den Norske Opera & Ballet. Current season highlights include his performance of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde conducted by Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra, Schaunard in Puccini’s La bohème (Metropolitan Opera), company debuts at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and Finnish National Opera. He also sang in the 2023 New Year’s Eve Concert of the Staatskapelle Dresden under Franz Welser-Möst. Recent engagements include debuts at the Metropolitan Opera and Michigan Opera Theater, BBC Proms, Belcore in Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore in Macerata, the title role in Britten’s Billy Budd at the Bolshoi Theater Moscow, Slook in Rossini’s La cambiale di matrimonio and Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia in Pesaro, Masetto in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Salzburger Festspiele and Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, the title role in Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Conte di Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozzle di Figaro at Semperoper Dresden.
