Biography

Francis O’Connor designed the productions of Gounod’s Faust and Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman for Irish National Opera. He has also designed productions for the National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal Court Theatre, Hampstead Theatre, Druid and the Abbey Theatre. Internationally, his work has been seen at English National Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Opéra de Marseille, the Spoleto Festival and Ural State Opera. He has enjoyed long associations with Opera North, Garsington Opera, and Grange Park Opera. Notable productions include the world premiere of Kevin Puts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night for Minnesota Opera. Francis represented Ireland at the Prague Quadrennial with Fragments and is the recipient of four Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards, a Critics’ Circle Award and a Dora Mavor Moore Award.
