Cork soprano Emma Nash made her Irish National Opera debut in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice for which the Sunday Independent praised her “powerfully soaring Amore”. She graduated with distinction from the MA in Opera Performance course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and is a winner of the PWC/Wexford Festival Opera Emerging Young Artist bursary and the University Concert Hall Limerick Rising Star Award.
She created the role of Polly in the world premiere of Andrew Synnott’s Dubliners (Wexford Festival Opera ShortWorks/Opera Theatre Company), and also created roles in Tom Lane’s Irish Times Irish Theatre Award-nominated opera series, The Cork Opera House Trilogy. She is a regular collaborator with composer Irene Buckley and sang in her new score for Carl Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc (Edinburgh International Film Festival, Union Chapel London, Cork French Film Festival) and in The Lament of Art O’Leary.
Other notable roles include Cunegonde in Bernstein à la carte (Wexford Festival Opera ShortWorks), Yum-Yum in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado (Cork Opera House), Handmaiden in Cherubini’s Medea (Wexford Festival Opera), Valencienne in Lehár’s The Merry Widow (Cork Opera House), Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel (Wexford Festival Opera ShortWorks), Gilda in Verdi’s Rigoletto (Opera Theatre Company), Lucia in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia (Opera Collective Ireland), Storyteller in Brian Irvine’s The Oldest Woman in Limerick (Dumbworld/Wide Open Opera), Janthe in Marschner’s Der Vampyr (The Everyman/ Cork Operatic Society), and Moppet in Britten’s Paul Bunyan with Welsh National Youth Opera.
