Biography
Irish-born Edwina Casey, who originally studied directing at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, makes her Irish National Opera debut with The Lighthouse. In 2020, she won the prestigious Bingham Ray New Talent Award at the Galway Film Fleadh in association with Magnolia Pictures (USA). She is currently in the late stages of development for her debut feature film, which is slated to shoot later this year. With Screen Ireland, she is in development for her musical drama — Butterfly. In 2020 this project won the Ireland section at JETS pitching competition during the Berlin Film Festival. Her debut short film Algorithm is currently doing the international festival circuit and to date has had premieres in Ireland, USA, Russia, Italy, Germany and Japan. Also currently at festivals is the Screen Ireland supported Here Are The Young Men (directed by Eoin Macken) which she co-produced with Richard Bolger. It stars Dean-Charles Chapman, Anya Taylor-Joy and Travis Fimmel. She has directed social and TV commercials most notably the TV commercial The Swimmer for telecom company Eir about sport star Alan Corcoran swimming the length of Ireland for charity. On stage she has worked as a revival director for opera companies NI Opera, Nevill-Holt Opera, Opera Theatre Company and, most recently, for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet in Oslo on behalf of Oliver Mears. Edwina is a directing member of the Irish Film and Television Academy.
