Biography

Daisy Evans works in opera, film and theatre as a director and writer. She directed Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade for Irish National Opera, for which she was nominated for an Olivier Award. She won the Royal Philharmonic Society Opera Award and the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Production in Opera and best director for Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle, which has been performed globally. Recent productions include Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti and Poulenc’s La Voix humaine for Buxton International Festival, Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims  for Leipzig Opera, Britten’s Albert Herring for Scottish Opera; Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Donizetti’s Don Pasquale for Welsh National Opera; Mitterer’s Peter Pan: The Dark Side for Fondazione Haydn, Bolzano and Tiroler Landestheater, Innsbruck; a film of Menotti’s The Telephone for the Edinburgh International Festival; Strozzi; a scratch performance of a play at Shakespeare’s Globe; Verdi’s La traviata for Longborough Festival Opera; Purcell’s King Arthur for the Academy of Ancient Music; Carmen Remastered for the Barbican and Royal Opera House. As Founder Director of Silent Opera, Daisy has directed new versions of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Puccini’s La bohème and Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. Silent Opera has toured internationally, and co-produced with British Youth Opera, English National Opera, Fondazione Haydn and Beijing Music Festival. As librettist, she has written English versions of Bluebeard’s Castle, Hansel and Gretel, Don Pasquale, Vixen, Don Giovanni, L’Orfeo and La bohème.
