Brian Mulligan
Biography
In the 2021-22 season Brian Mulligan will sing Kreon in Enescu’s Oedipe with the Opéra national de Paris under the baton of Ingo Metzmacher, make his INO debut as Don Pizarro in Fidelio and appear as as Jochanaan in Strauss’s Salome at the Dutch National Opera. He also appears at Staatsoper Stuttgart as Wotan in Wagner’s Die Walküre and returns to the Bregenz Festival as Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly under Enrique Mazzola. Important projects in season 2020-21 were Sharpless in Zurich, Wotan in Wagner’s Das Rheingold at the Bregenz Festival under Andrés Orozco-Estrada and the title role in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Dutch National Opera. The internationally sought-after artist is a regular guest on the most important opera and concert stages worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Houston Grand Opera, the opera houses in Amsterdam, Antwerp, Frankfurt and Zurich, as well as important festivals including Wiener Festwochen, Saito Kinen Festival in Japan, Wexford Festival Opera, Aspen Music Festival and Salzburg Festival. His critically acclaimed debut album, recorded for Naxos in 2017, includes two song cycles by Dominick Argento. His second album Old Fashioned, consisting of American and British songs of the early 20th century, was released in 2019. His DVD of Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel is available on Deutsche Grammophon.
