TU Dublin Répétiteur Scholarship

The annual Répétiteur Scholarship, offered in partnership between Irish National Opera and TU Dublin, is designed to support and develop emerging talent in the field of opera répétiteuring.

This unique scholarship combines academic excellence at TU Dublin with hands-on professional experience through the INO Studio, providing recipients with an invaluable opportunity to further their skills in real-world settings.

Scholarship Overview

The scholarship is awarded each academic year to a student pursuing a Master of Music (MMus) in Répétiteuring at the TU Dublin Conservatoire. Recipients benefit from an immersive experience that includes participation in the INO Studio, where they receive intensive training and mentorship while actively working across a range of INO's professional productions. This dual approach ensures that recipients gain both academic instruction and practical, high-level experience within a professional opera environment.

As Studio and Outreach Producer James Bingham explains:

“The INO Studio is focused on investing in operatic talent for the future. Combining TU Dublin’s excellent teaching with professional experience from INO’s productions makes this scholarship an incredible opportunity for anyone pursuing a career as a répétiteur.” - James Bingham (INO Studio & Outreach Producer)

Mentorship and Professional Development

The scholarship offers more than just academic and technical training—it provides direct mentorship from seasoned professionals within both INO and TU Dublin. Scholars gain unique insights into the role of a répétiteur in full-scale opera productions, preparing them for the demands of professional life. Rachel Talbot, Head of Vocal, Opera, and Drama Studies at TU Dublin, emphasizes the importance of this collaboration:

“We are delighted that this joint initiative with INO has attracted such talented students. Our staff are eager to share their expertise, and we look forward to the contributions the scholarship recipients make to the performing lives of their peers and to practice-based research.” - Rachel Talbot (Head of Vocal, Opera, & Drama Studies, TU Dublin)
