Irish National Opera partners with The Metropolitan Opera to present The Met: Live in HD season 2024- 2025 featuring eight performances transmitted live from the Met stage to selected Irish cinemas. Live transmission and select Encore screenings in cinemas in Belfast, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Louth, Meath and Wexford.

Irish National Opera (INO) continues its partnership with The Metropolitan Opera New York presenting live high-definition cinema simulcasts in cinemas throughout Ireland. The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera’s award- winning series, opens its 18th season on Saturday 5 October 2024, with a live transmission of Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, which stars acclaimed tenor Benjamin Bernheim in the title role of the tormented poet, alongside sopranos Erin Morley and Prett Yende and mezzo-soprano Clémentine Margaine.

The 2024–25 Live in HD season also features the Met premiere and live transmission of Jeanine Tesori’s new opera Grounded, starring mezzo-soprano Emily D’Angelo; new stagings of Strauss’s Salome by director Claus Guth, with a cast led by soprano Elza van den Heever and baritone Peter Mattei, and Verdi’s Aida with soprano Angel Blue and tenor Piotr Beczała, directed by Michael Mayer; the first-ever Met Live in HD transmission of Beethoven’s Fidelio, along with Puccini’s Tosca, both featuring soprano Lise Davidsen as she continues to explore the full range of Italian and German dramatic repertoire; Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with an all-star cast; and director Bartlett Sher’s beloved take on Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, with opera’s newest star, mezzo-soprano Aigul Akhmetshina, returning to the Met after her hit run this season in the new production of Bizet’s Carmen. Met Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts Grounded, Aida, and Salome.

“From its beginning, The Met: Live in HD was created to connect the Met to a global audience,” said Peter Gelb, the Met’s Maria Manetti Shrem General Manager. “We’re glad to see audiences around the world beginning to return to cinemas in larger numbers since the end of the pandemic.”

2024–25 Live in HD Season at a Glance:

The Live in HD season will begin on Saturday 5 October 2024, with Offenbach’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and continues on Saturday 19 October with Jeanine Tesori’s Grounded, Puccini’s Tosca is on Saturday 23 November, Verdi’s Aida is on Saturday 25 January 2025, Beethoven’s Fidelio on Saturday 15 March 2025, Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro Saturday 26 April 2025, Strauss’s Salome Saturday 17 May 2025, and Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Saturday 31 May 2025). All live performances are Saturday matinees transmitted live from the Met stage, however many Irish cinemas offer encore screenings, so you can enjoy the performances at your convenience!
