Philipp Pointner was born in Vienna received his education at the Music and Arts Private University of Vienna and the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, studying conducting, coaching and composition. After graduating with distinction in 1994, he was conductor at the Cape Town Opera and also appeared at the Civic Centre Johannesburg and at the renowned South African Grahamstown Festival. Since then he appears regularly in Cape Town and Pretoria. His career has taken him to many centres of the German, Austrian and Swiss theatre scene, including Hamburg, Cologne, Mannheim, Braunschweig, Vienna Volksoper, Innsbruck, Graz and Bern. He also conducts regularly at the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Belgium. He was permanent conductor (1. Kapellmeister) at the Nuremberg State Theatre until 2013. Orchestras he has worked with in concert include the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tonkünstler-Orchester, Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Philharmonic Orchestra, Braunschweig State Orchestra, Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic, Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn, Banatul State Philharmonic Orchestra, Timișoara, Transylvania State Philharmonic Orchestra of Cluj-Napoca, Nuremberg Symphony, Hof Symphony, Brandenburg Symphony and Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt. He makes his INO debut in Werther.
