Biography

Dublin mezzo-soprano Gemma Ní Bhriain graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music where she studied with Veronica Dunne. She went on to become a member of the Atelier Lyrique Opera Studio at Opéra national de Paris, where her roles included Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Proserpina in Monteverdi’s Orfeo. This was followed by two years with the International Opera Studio at Zurich Opera House in Switzerland. Her roles there included Ramiro in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, Zweite Dame in Mozart’sDie Zauberflöte, and Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor. Her performances with INO include Siébel in Gounod’s Faust, Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Anna in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, Niklausse  in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann and Mother Elaine Agnew’s Paper Boat in association with Music for Galway. In 2021 she co-founded a new chamber ensemble, Trio Cantare, with pianist Cahal Masterson and cellist Yseult Cooper Stockdale. Their debut recital was part of the Drogheda Classical Music Festival in October 2021, and was later broadcast on RTÉ lyric fm.
