Biography

American conductor Ryan McAdams is equally at home in the world of opera, symphonic repertoire and contemporary music, and has established a presence on both sides of the Atlantic. Crash Ensemble named him their principal conductor in 2021. Their relationship began with the premiere of Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh’s FEDORA-Generali Prize-winning The Second Violinist at Galway International Arts Festival in 2017 in a production that was also seen in Dublin and at the Barbican in London. Last season he made his debut with the Orchestre national d’Île de France in the Philharmonie de Paris and the Belgian National Orchestra, and was immediately re-invited by both. This season he returns to lead the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, to the Lyric Opera of Kansas City for a new production of Tosca, and to the Italian orchestras he regularly works with — I Pomeriggi Musicale in Milan, the Filarmonica del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in Palermo, the Orchestra della Toscana in Florence, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Turin. In the autumn of 2022, he will finally make his first appearance at the Zurich Opera House in a revival of Gounod’s Faust following a pandemic postponement of his 2020 debut.
